Discover Every Corner of Norway

Sande is Vestfold’s fjord-fringed forest basin - a municipality where coastal paths hug island shores, ski trails crisscross snowy hills, and a golden anchor marks the coat of arms. With around 8,700 residents and a landscape shaped by the Sandebukta bay, Presteslettås peak, and the villages of Sande, Vestskogen, and Østskogen, Sande is the kind of place where you can hike past Viking burial mounds, explore old vicarages, and still catch a swim beside a limestone island. It’s got beaches, birch trees, and a name that means “sandy plain.”

Getting There

Sande lies along the Oslofjord, about 1 hour southwest of Oslo. The E18 highway and Vestfold railway line run through town, and buses connect to Holmestrand, Drammen, and Tønsberg. The area is best explored by boots, boat, or bold curiosity - especially if you’re chasing anchor echoes, limestone lore, or the hush of birch leaves beside a coastal trail.
