Lyngen
Lyngen is Troms’s alpine amphitheater — a municipality where jagged peaks rise straight from Arctic fjords, WWII bunkers overlook northern lights, and distilleries age whisky beneath aurora skies. With around 2,700 residents and a landscape shaped by the Lyngen Alps, Lyngenfjord, and the peninsula between Ullsfjord and Lyngenfjord, Lyngen is the kind of place where you can ski tour to glacier summits, kayak past porpoises, and still catch a reindeer kebab beside a glass igloo hotel. It’s got altitude, Arctic drama, and a name that may stem from Old Norse *Lygnir* — “calm waters.”

Getting There
Lyngen lies on the Lyngen Peninsula, with Lyngseidet as its administrative center. Ferries connect Breivikeidet to Svensby and Lyngseidet to Olderdalen. The E6 highway loops around the fjord, and buses run to Furuflaten, Nord-Lenangen, and Bensnes. The area is best explored by boots, boat, or bold curiosity — especially if you’re chasing glacier echoes, whisky lore, or the hush of birch leaves under a midnight sun.
