Discover Every Corner of Norway

Kvam is Hardanger’s fjord-framed orchard - a municipality where waterfalls tumble behind footpaths, cider flows from century-old farms, and art installations glow with sunrise light. With around 8,500 residents and a landscape shaped by the Hardangerfjord, glacier-fed rivers, and fruit-laden slopes, Kvam is the kind of place where you can walk behind a waterfall, ride a RIB boat into a hidden fjord, and still catch a concert in a silo lit by James Turrell. It’s got sparkle, serenity, and a name that comes from the Old Norse hvammr, meaning “grassy hollow.”

Getting There

Kvam lies about 1 hour east of Bergen, with Norheimsund as its administrative center. The Norwegian Scenic Route Hardanger runs through the municipality, and buses connect to Bergen, Voss, and Odda. The area is best explored by car, boots, or boat - especially if you’re chasing cider trails, waterfall mist, or the hush of fjord light through a skyspace dome.
