Luster is Vestland’s glacier-carved crown - a municipality where turquoise fjords meet towering peaks, stave churches whisper medieval tales, and llamas stroll beside waterfalls. With around 5,300 residents and a landscape shaped by the Lustrafjorden, Jostedalsbreen glacier, and Jotunheimen mountains, Luster is the kind of place where you can hike to Norway’s highest summit, kayak past icebergs, and still catch a reindeer kebab beside a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s got altitude, antiquity, and a name that reflects the bright glacial waters of the fjord.

Where to Stay in Luster
Getting There
Luster lies at the eastern end of the Sognefjord, with Gaupne as its administrative center. The RV55 Sognefjellsvegen mountain pass connects to Lom and Sogndal, and ferries run between Solvorn and Urnes. Buses serve Skjolden, Hafslo, and Jostedal. The area is best explored by boots, boat, or bold curiosity - especially if you’re chasing glacier echoes, stave silhouettes, or the hush of birch leaves beside turquoise fjords.
