BÃ¥tsfjord

Båtsfjord is a windswept fishing village on Norway’s Varanger Peninsula, where Arctic cod leap from icy waters and king eiders gather in the harbor like feathered royalty. With just over 2,000 residents, this remote outpost offers deep sea adventures, birdwatching safaris, and a front-row seat to the midnight sun. Whether you're chasing sea eagles or sipping coffee in a harbor café, Båtsfjord is where the wild north meets warm hospitality.

Getting There

Båtsfjord is tucked into the northeastern edge of Finnmark, with access by plane (via Widerøe to Båtsfjord Airport), Hurtigruten coastal ferry, or a dramatic drive from Tana through mountain passes. In winter, convoy driving (kolonnekjøring) may be required due to snow and wind. The village is compact, with harbor views, grocery stores, and gas stations all within walking distance.
