Solund is Vestland’s sea-sculpted island basin - a municipality where postal boats weave through skerries, wild sheep graze Viking-age hillsides, and five blue diamonds shimmer on the coat of arms. With around 750 residents and a landscape shaped by the Solund archipelago, Hardbakke, and the islands of Sula, Ytre Sula, and Utvær, Solund is the kind of place where you can kayak past sea eagles, hike to cliff-top cairns, and still warm your hands beside a lighthouse featured on Norway’s 50-kroner note. It’s got salt, solitude, and a name that may stem from *Sólund* - “furrowed island.”
